    Medical and Risk Waiver
Please understand that ballet is a risky form of art; therefore, all teachers, directors, officers, partners, guest dancers and employees of L’Etoile/ RBAM are not responsible for any accident or injury that may occur. The students and parents should understand the risks involved, and agree to follow all safety instructions and precautions. The participant also agrees to waive, release, covenant not to sue, and indemnify and hold harmless L’Etoile/RBAM from any claims, actions, suits, costs, expenses, damages or liabilities, including attorney's fees for personal injury, property damage, accidents, illnesses, or any incidental damages that may arise from the use of the facilities or of participation in the activity of ballet.  The staff should be informed of any special medical/health problems or needs, restrictions, conditions, and/or injuries that your child may have.  If your child has any serious conditions and/or illnesses, you must bring written permission to take ballet classes from your primary doctor. If your child misses any class/rehearsals because of an illness or injury, parents must provide a doctor's note. All students are required to be covered by their own insurance. If any injury occurs, it is understood that the family is responsible for any medical costs. It is also understood that L'Etoile is not responsible for any personal property that is lost, stolen, or damaged while attending L'Etoile.

    Consent Waiver
L'Etoile follows the Vaganova syllabus and methodology, which often requires the teachers to manually adjust the student in order to achieve the correct body position, posture, or alignment. Manually correcting students is a non-invasive, standard practice of Vaganova methodology and is not intended to cause any bodily harm to the student. By registering, I authorize and agree that L'Etoile may take and use photographs and video recordings for marketing (publications and website) and social media. I also understand that L’Etoile/RBAM may remove my child from any class, rehearsal, performance, and audition due to disruptive behavior. Make-up classes will only be available during the following month of the missed class. There is no refund or refinancing for any missed classes. Classes must have a minimum of 7 students to proceed, if enrollment falls below 7 students, class may be combined with another level. Schedule and faculty are subject to change. I also understand that all tuition, performances, costumes, registration and audition fees are non-refundable for any reason.

    Registration Agreement
    • Facility Rules and Regulations:
      • No photography/video is allowed during classes, rehearsals, and/or performances.
      • No street shoes are allowed to be worn in the studios.
      • Only water allowed in the studios, no other food, drinks, or gum permitted.
      • No running, climbing on furniture, or rough housing on the premises, including the lobby.
      • L'Etoile is not responsible for any items lost or stolen in the studio.
      • Parents may observe classes at any time through the window, but please do not enter the studio.
      • Keep the noise level to a minimum in the lobby while classes are in progress.
      • Students MUST clean up after eating, and throw away all trash.
    • Etiquette: Students and parents are expected to be courteous, polite, friendly, and respectful to all faculty members, guest faculty, parents, each other, and all guests. It is also essential that our students respect, understand, and follow the school policies. Disrespectful, aggressive, and/or disruptive behavior will not be accepted and L’Etoile has the right to remove the student from the school for this type of behavior.
    • Enrollment: Once enrolled, your child will be enrolled for the program year (September 9, 2020 to May 29, 2021). The first tuition payment and fall performance fees are due at registration within one week of submitting the online registration form. Company members must also sign the Company contract at the studio for registration to be complete. Classes must have a minimum of 7 students to proceed, if enrollment falls below 7 students, class may be combined with another level.
    • Placement in Classes: All students ages 8 and up must take a trial class or attend an audition class to determine the child's placement. Audition classes should be scheduled in advance. Transition into a higher level is only done at the director's call.
    • Attendance/Punctuality: Students are encouraged to arrive early to all classes to warm-up, prepare for class, and use the restroom. Students must be inside the ballet studio prior to the beginning of class, not in the dressing room. If a student arrives late, she should wait at the door until invited into the classroom by the teacher. If a student is more than ten minutes late, the student may be asked to observe the class because missing the warm-up exercises may cause a physical injury to the student.  All absences should be called in or emailed to the Academy in advance. Injured students are strongly encouraged to come and observe classes so they will be familiar with the corrections and combinations when they return to class. All rehearsals for both the Nutcracker and spring performance are mandatory.
    • Make-Up Classes: Make-up classes will only be available during the following month of the missed class. There is no refund or refinancing for any missed classes. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather can be made up within one month of the cancelled class. Please inform the artistic director in advance when your child will be taking his/her make-up class. If your child does not participate in the performances, make-up classes will not be rescheduled for the class time missed for rehearsals.
    • Inclement Weather: Keeping in mind student and faculty safety, L'Etoile follows Howard County Public School regarding closings, but not in all instances. An e-mail will be sent out to all students if the studio will be closed. Classes can be made up within one month of the cancelled class. However, classes will not be rescheduled due to inclement weather.  There are no pro-rated classes or refunds given for missed classes or cancelled classes due to force majeure closings.
    • Communication: It is our goal to keep L'Etoile families informed of all activities and events. E-mail updates are sent on a regular basis and it is important that all families provide a current e-mail address that is checked frequently. All information is also posted on the bulletin board in the lobby, which students and parents should read frequently. We accept e-mails from parents/legal guardians only. If you would like to speak with the Artistic Directors in person, please make an appointment in advance in order to avoid interruption of classes and/or rehearsal.
    • Dismissals: L’Etoile/RBAM has the right to dismiss any student/family from the school due to: misconduct, breaking of school policies, regular complaints, pressure placed on the Directors, teachers, staff, and/or other families, defamation (slander or libel) of the school, and/or spreading false information about the school. No refund will be given.
    • Withdrawals: L'Etoile will respect your decision to withdraw from the curriculum. If you wish to withdraw your child, please do so in a polite and respectful way. It must be presented in writing with the remaining tuition balance. You further agree to be liable, obligated, and responsible for the costs of collecting all outstanding amounts, including reasonable attorneys’ fees.

    COVID-19 Policies

L’Etoile, The Russian Ballet Academy of Maryland takes the health of our dancers, their families, teachers, and staff very seriously, and we are taking the necessary preventative measures to ensure that everyone stays safe. We have marked spaces on the studio floors that are at least 6ft apart for students to stand on during both barre and center. We will wipe down all surfaces hourly, with a larger disinfecting process taking place before opening and after students leave, including the use of UV disinfection lamps. Hand sanitizer will frequently be distributed to students and staff. In the interest of health and safety, only students will be allowed to enter the building, students can be dropped-off and picked-up at the door. Students will have the temperature taken prior to entering the building and any student with a fever, or displaying other symptoms, will be sent home. For health and safety reasons masks will not be required when dancing, limiting air flow during strenuous activity can be potentially dangerous, but they are encouraged for students who feel comfortable wearing one.

Hybrid Program – all classes will be live streamed via Zoom, students who are not comfortable returning to the studio are encouraged to participate in this manner so they will not fall behind. Tuition will be the same for students who attend in-person and students who use Zoom.

In the event of another stay-at-home order we will make the transition to Zoom classes for all students immediately. We will provide a schedule of classes as close to our traditional program as possible, that is still appropriate and beneficial for all dancers, but any discrepancy in hours will not be refunded or made-up.
